Old timber columns sitting on bluestone capping, with masonry underneath. The masonry and capping are not structurally strong enough for the extra stories being added to this building, so we are excavating down to bedrock and pouring new footings underneath the columns, then reinstating the capping at the new floor level.

This footing for a dividing wall had originally be

This footing for a dividing wall had originally been built on a very soft clayey sand, back in 1902 or so. We installed a 45kN Acrow prop on the bedrock beneath it, then formed and cast a concrete panel to underpin the footing, with a layer of Lanko structural grout at the top. This is now much stronger than it ever has been.
